SWAP
Also known as Swishing. Find out more about clothes swapping and follow us for event details.
Southwell Swishing
The concept is simple, you bring clothes you no longer wear to an event and swap them for clothes other people no longer wear. Thus, you build up a new wardrobe, your bank balance is barely affected (apart perhaps for a small entrance fee) and you’re not contributing to the 350,000 tonnes of annual clothing waste that goes to landfill.
Swishing was set up around 10 years ago in the UK and was given the name because of the noise that the rustling of clothes make when you move. It really is a great way to update your wardrobe without actually going out to buy new. It’s guilt free shopping and kind to the environment. It’s a more collaborative form of consumption.
At our Southwell Swishing events we invite our Swishers to a presentation on fast fashion’s environmental impact and why we started our clothes swapping in the first place. This is followed by styling tips for the season ahead and how to wear them - by shopping your wardrobe or just buying key items that are timeless. Experience a good night out, meet friends (or make new friends!) and share the love and the stories that those items of clothing have given you. A stress free bout of retail therapy.
